On the Fez Guided Walking Tour, you get to discover the beauty of Fez. You will visit Fez’s old medina, which was built in the 9th century and has been continually inhabited since. It’s a network of small alleyways, lanes, and covered souks peppered with exquisite examples of traditional architecture and vital cultural icons like the University of Al Quaraouiyine.

The old medina of Fez is a network of small streets and old buildings that provide an insight into the city’s history. The historic medina is a one-of-a-kind cultural and architectural gem teeming with street sellers, artists, and local markets, making it an ideal site to explore on foot. In addition to its cultural value, Fez’s ancient medina is notable for its well-preserved traditional architecture, which includes famed blue-tiled structures and beautiful ceramic mosaics. It also has a thriving population of artisans who have for years passed down ancient skills for working with leather, pottery, textiles, and other materials.

There’s plenty more to see and do in Fez, and a walking tour is an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the city’s rich cultural past. Walk around the Bou Inania Madrasa, which is one of Morocco’s few remaining madrasas (Islamic schools). It was constructed in the 14th century and boasts stunning tilework, carved wood, and exquisite brickwork. Then, stop by Al-Attarine Madrasa, which is another famous madrasa notable for its beautiful design and delicate tilework. It’s a nice location to take a break and examine the skill that went into its creation.

With our local guide, you will tour the Tanneries, which are a cluster of dye pits used to tint leather and are one of the most recognizable sites in Fez’s ancient medina. They are near the Chaouwara Tanneries and are best seen by one of the local leather stores. Moreover, you’ve got to see the Moulay Idriss Mausoleum. It is a hallowed mausoleum to Moulay Idriss, the founder of Fez and a venerated person in Morocco. On the agenda, there also is the Nejjarine Museum of Woodwork Arts and Crafts which is set in a classic 19th-century home and is dedicated to the preservation and presentation of traditional Moroccan wooden arts and crafts.

On the Fez Guided Walking Tour, we will also take you to the Dar Batha Museum, a former palace that has been turned into a museum displaying traditional Moroccan art such as pottery, fabrics, and wooden objects. With us, you can also go shopping in Medina’s Souks. The historic medina of Fez is filled with tiny lanes and lively souks (markets) offering everything from spices and linens to jewelry and pottery.

  • The Royal Palace: Built in the late 1800s, this majestic palace is one of the rare remaining specimens of traditional Moroccan architecture. It is currently a museum that welcomes tourists.
  • Fez Jdid: This is the city’s younger section, and it is home to numerous notable religious structures, including many of the city’s oldest mosques.

Chakib came highly recommended to my by Alicia and her family, who I know quite well. They said that if you go to Fes, you must have Chakib Badrane as your guide as he is the best in the business. They were most certainly correct. Not only did Chakib give my friend and I the best overall tour of Fes in one day, but he also assisted in securing us accommodation in FES and getting a driver to take us to Chefchaoen the following day. Well back to the guided tour... We met with Chakib in the morning at our delightful RIad in the Medina. He is gracious and very friendly and of course, a font of information of his home city. He gave us the history of the area as we drove around the new city. We went to visit the King's Palace and also the Military Barricades on the hill. We were able to take stunning photos from all of our stops by car. Then we dropped off the car and driver and walked extensively throughout the Medina. We started in the old Jewish quarter and then meandered through the maze that is the Medina. We went to a museum of Artifacts too which was great. We learned fascinating facts about the history and the way of life today; we stopped in many amazing shops and food places and then a sumptuous lunch. Everbody knows Chakib. Also we walked so much that we ended up walking back to our Riad. Believe me, you will never find your way around without a guide in Fes and the best of the best is Chakib Badrane--Guideinfes.com

My husband and I did a private tour with Chakib on May 1, 2024. I cannot recommend Chakib enough for a complete tour of Fes. He is so knowledgeable about the history of the city, as well as the local spots in the Medina as he grew up in the city. My husband and I had no information about Fes before we arrived, but after we left I felt like an expert and I have a deep appreciation for the city. There is seriously no better guide for Fes! Would recommend Chakib 1000x!

Chakib is amazing. My husband and I visited Morocco for the first time a few weeks ago and we loved it. One of the highlights of our visit was Fes and I am sure this is due to Chakib. Chakib is smart, informative, funny, fun and passionate about his home. He covered all the history and facts about Fes, an area I knew nothing about, and now, I understand and appreciate Chakib's love for this beautiful city. Chakib took us through all the alleys and the market, all the while telling us stories. We cannot thank him enough for a wonderful day. No better guide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
